Suède 1-2 Ukraine: Last-minute winner in extra time sets up meeting with Three Lions in Rome
England will play Ukraine in the quarter-finals of euro 2020, after they beat Sweden in the last 16 le mardi soir.
Manchester City’s Oleksandr Zinchenko fired Ukraine ahead midway through the first half after a cross from the right found him on the far side of the penalty area, but Emil Forsberg replied with a fierce, deflected effort just before half-time.
It was his fourth of the tournament and he twice almost netted his fifth in the second half – which would have taken level with Cristiano Ronaldo as the top scorer – only to be denied by the woodwork both times.
With no further goals the match went to extra time, with the first major incident seeing Sweden centre-back Marcus Danielson sent-off for a high challenge which left Artem Besedin injured.
Both teams were reluctant to go all-out for the win and a penalty shootout looked inevitable, but substitute Artem Dovbyk found space to score the winner in the 120th minute and set up a last-eight clash with England in Rome.
