The Vicarage Road pitch ahead of Watford vs Liverpool

Manchester United travel to Leicester as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side look to get back to winning ways in the Premierliga.

A defeat by Aston Villa and a draw against Everton stalled United’s momentum before the international break, and Solskjaer has been hit with several absences since. Raphael Varane was injured on France duty and Edinson Cavani and Fred are unavailable following their late matches in South America. The return of Marcus Rashford is a boost, egter, while Cristiano Ronaldo will aim to add to his three Premier League strikes so far after drawing blanks in United’s previous two matches in the competition. With fixtures against Atalanta, Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester City to come next, the pressure will be on United to start their tough run of matches with three points.

Leicester are seeking a win to spark their campaign following a slow start under Brendan Rodgers. The Foxes have challenged United for the top four in each of the past two seasons but find themselves in the bottom half of the table with eight points from their opening seven games. Rodgers has been linked with Newcastle this week but insists he is happy at the King Power. “This is a great opportunity starting tomorrow to get back to our level, get our focus back again and hopefully get one or two players back, and then we can progress as the season goes on," hy het gesê.

Leicester’s struggles show the price of sustainable football in the modern hyper-competitive Premier League

When the takeover of Newcastle United by Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, PIF, was completed, there was sizeable unease at Leicester City.

Natuurlik, the expectation was Steve Bruce’s time is up and Brendan Rodgers would be handed the keys to the castle and whatever he desired to become manager of the world’s richest football club.

That was not rooted in paranoia, with the Northern Irishman already distancing himself from the latest state-owned sportswashing project – forget whatever you’re fed about “legally binding assurances” regarding separation between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its savings account to diversify the economy.

No such exists. No such can or ever will exist.

Watford 0 – 5 Liverpool

Claudio Ranieri suffered his biggest ever Premier League defeat, while no manager whose first game with a club in the competition came at home has suffered a bigger margin of defeat (also Alan Smith with Crystal Palace vs Liverpool in August 1994, when they lost

1-6).

Watford 0 – 5 Liverpool

Reaction from Mo Salah who scored for the eighth game in a row for Liverpool. He told BT Sport:

I think we didn’t want to start like the [Manchester] City game so talked in dressing room about starting the game well and that’s what we did.

“All the goals were very important but Bobby [Firmino] did a great job scoring a hat-trick so congratulations to him and Sadio [Mane] also scored a nice goal.

“I didn’t watch back it yet [his goal]. Last game [against Man City] kan wees [was better]. I don’t know which one was better. I was in the box trying to find someone or score myself. It is all about the team. That is the most important thing.

“Sometimes I don’t have the luck to score goals but I am always trying 100% to help the team. I am confident at the moment, helping the team win points which is the most important thing.”
