ScotRail asks passengers to avoid travel unless necessary

Train services across Scotland will also be severely disrupted today and on Saturday with only a handful of services running as rail staff take further strike action.

ScotRail has warned passengers a very limited number of services will run today as a result of industrial action by the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) which has been locked in an ongoing battle over pay, jobs and conditions with Network Rail.

Services will operate between 7.30am and 6.30pm and ScotRail has urged passengers to check services ahead of travel and only travel if it is necessary.

The operator has also warned passengers to expect disruption tomorrow and on Sunday following the strikes as services are restarted.

RMT picket lines will be in place at Glasgow Central and Edinburgh Waverley from 7am on Thursday, with a “picket at the fringe” at 10am on Waverley bridge.

David Simpson, ScotRail service delivery director, 前記: “It is very unfortunate to see such widespread disruption across the whole of the Great Britain rail network and we know this will be frustrating for ScotRail customers.

“Regrettably, this strike action by RMT members of Network Rail means that we will not be able to operate the vast majority of our services during the period of strike action.

Customers should expect significant disruption to services on strike days, as well as the following day.

David Simpson, ScotRail service delivery director

“We are able to operate on more routes than on the previous day of strike action, しかしながら, we are still only able to run a very limited number of services on these routes, so we’re advising customers to seek alternative means of transport and to only travel if they really need to.”

Unions ‘hell-bent on causing as much misery as possible’, シャップスは言う

Transport secretary Grant Shapps has slammed the fresh strikes saying the unions are “hell-bent” on causing as much misery as possible.

“It’s clear, from their co-ordinated approach, that the unions are hell-bent on causing as much misery as possible to the very same taxpayers who stumped up £600 per household to ensure not a single rail worker lost their job during the pandemic.

「悲しいことに, union chiefs have short memories and will be repaying this act of good faith by ruining millions of hard-working people’s summer plans.

“Businesses too will suffer, with the capital’s leisure and tourism sectors, which have been banking on that summer trade, set to lose millionsa particularly cruel blow given how hard many worked to stay afloat during successive summers of lockdown.”

In a separate statement released on Twitter on Wednesday, Mr Shapps wrote: “It cannot be right for the country to be held to ransom by Union bosses seeking to protect outdated work practices that have no place in the 21st century.”
