Victim’s father condemns police who left kids to ‘bleed out’
The grieving father of one of the victims killed in the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde on 24 May has slammed the police for waiting for more than an hour to confront the gunman.
Jessie Rodriguez, whose 10-year-old daughter Annabell was killed in the attack, 告诉 独立 that “more likely many children probably still were there just bleeding out, but yet they didn’t try to rescue nobody.”
“It’s wrong to just think, ‘They’re all dead anyway.’ You don’t think negative like that; you enter and put down that man, find out if there’s still survivors – not just wait till they bleed out,“ 他说.
“It took one hour before they could put a stop to this man … but it’s a little bit too late.”
Officers with the Uvalde Police Department and Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District arrived roughly four minutes after 18-year-old gunman Salvador Ramos entered the school, according to the timeline from law enforcement officials.
But in the days that followed, officials have struggled to publicly explain what happened in the hour that followed before an officer fatally shot Ramos.
Hundreds pay respects in Uvalde at school, funeral homes
Throngs of people carrying stuffed animals, flowers and messages swarmed Geraldine Street to pay respect to the 19 children and two teachers killed in the mass shooting attack last week.
Lisa Camarillo, 38, drove two hours from Laredo with her sons, Oscar and Jacob, who are the same age as most of the young victims who died in their class when Salvador Ramos, 18, attacked the school.
“I’m lost for words,” Ms Camarillo tells 独立, explaining that she came with her boys to Uvalde to “pay my respects for these families because this is something that should never have happened – especially not here at school”.
Just seconds away on the same street in Uvalde, mourners held one of the first visitations for those students, for 10-year-old Amerie Jo Garza, at Hillcrest Funeral Home in advance of a rosary later that evening and funeral Mass on Tuesday – exactly one week after she was gunned down in her fourth-grade classroom.

Biden suggests demolishing Uvalde school
President Joe Biden has said that he is considering demolishing the elementary school in Uvalde, 在哪里 19 young children and two teachers were shot dead last week.
Senator Roland Gutierrez said that the president promised to provide federal resources to potentially raze Robb Elementary School and build a new campus in the community left heartbroken by the massacre.
“他说, ‘I’m not going away. I’m going to bring you resources. We’re going to look to raze that school, build a new one,’” said the Democrat, who represents Uvalde.
“I can’t tell you how many little children that I’ve talked to that don’t want to go into that building. They’re just traumatised. They’re just destroyed.”

The 18-year-old shooter who killed 21 people in Texas last week had a history of violence and “loved” abusing animals, his classmates from Uvalde High School have claimed.
Salvador Ramos was a bully who provoked other people in order to pick fights and was seen hurting dogs, they alleged, countering the family’s claim that he was bullied for stuttering.“He would go to the park and try to pick on people and he loved hurting animals,” classmate Jaime Arellano told the Daily Beast.
Others alleged that Ramos boasted about torturing animals and aired his acts of animal abuse on the French live streaming platform Yubo
.A Yubo user told ABC News that Ramos would “put cats in plastic bags, suspend them inside, throw them at the ground and throw them at people’s houses”. They claimed that Ramos would display these videos while laughing and boasting about how he and his friends “did it all the time”.

The father of a 10-year-old girl, who was one of the 19 kids killed by Salvador Ramos, has demanded a ban on the sale of assault rifles.
“Assault rifles shouldn’t be sold at all, period,” Mr Rodriguez, 53, 告诉 独立.
“We understand having an assault rifle for the military; not personal use. Not to gun down our children … all the children gunned down like they were animals.
“There’s no justice in selling a kid an assault rifle and especially that amount of clips and bullets. It’s unbelievable.”

Canada proposes buying back assault rifles
Canada would implement a “national freeze” on handgun ownership and force owners of “military-style assault weapons” to sell their guns to the government under newly-introduced legislation, prime minister Justin Trudeau announced on Monday.
“As a government, 作为一个社会, we have a responsibility to act to prevent more tragedies,” Mr Trudeau said.
The proposals, which are expected to pass, come in the wake of last week’s deadly mass school shooting in Uvalde, 德克萨斯州, that killed 21 人们, 和一个 2020 tragedy in rural Nova Scotia in which 22 people died in Canada’s deadliest mass shooting.

Survivor says teacher played dead after being shot
A nine-year-old student of the Robb Elementary School, who survived the carnage on 24 可能, said that his teacher played dead after being shot and asked students to stay quiet.
Teacher Elsa Avila ran to the door to lock their classroom which was near the rooms where 19 children and two teachers were killed. Ms Avila was shot through the glass and dropped to the floor.
“I personally can’t thank my son’s teacher enough,” the student’s mother Briana Ruiz told 美国广播公司新闻. “I think what she did saved all of their lives.”

Donald Trump Jr, while defending guns, posted a rambling video on his Facebook page on Saturday where he argued that last week’s massacre could have unfolded with any other type of weapon.
He furiously ranted about people saying that “it’s the gun, it’s not the sociopath wielding it”.
