Hannah Mills and Eilidh McIntyre took gold in the women’s 470 au Jeux Olympiques de Tokyo to continue Great Britain’s incredible success in the sailing.

Mills is now the most successful female sailor in Olympic history, adding to her gold at Rio 2016 and silver at London 2012.

It also means the total of sailing medals for Équipe GB is now set at five, making them the most successful team at Tokyo 2020 with three golds, a silver and a bronze.

Switzerland took first place in the race, but Britain finished fifth to top the points table for a glorious gold.

After some late drama, Germany came third, with Israel fourth. While Poland took silver and France were left in bronze.

Upon clinching gold, Mills and McIntyre dived into the ocean to celebrate.

Mills emulated the success of her father Mike, who won gold in sailing’s star class at the 1988 Games in Seoul.

Prior to McIntyre and Mills’ gold-medal triumph, Chris Grube and Luke Patience finished fifth in the men’s 470 event for Britain.

Mardi, Giles Scott retained his Finn title for Team GB, tandis que Dylan Fletcher and Stuart Bithell claimed 49er gold.
